Breakfast Club and Lunch Club
Breakfast Club started years ago when a former student wanted a place to go to get additional help in math and wanted to explore topics in greater depth. This former student is currently working in her second year residency in orthopedics.
Students come in early mornings to get assistance from each other and the teacher. There is much peer collaboration as they analyze homework problems, prepare for exams, solidify understanding of a topic.
Lunch Club began when students asked for a place to get extra help because Breakfast Club was too early for them to function. Sleeping in for those extra minutes was more important. Students bring a sack lunch and work through their lunch period.
Some students find it useful to use a combination of both clubs. The atmosphere is relaxing and allows for socializing within the structured working environment.
Students will have access to MathTutor a group of DVDs that cover a wide range of topics from basic skills to advanced Algebra.
Students will have access to a program called Algebrator which will be used to analyze their multiple step strategies.
